Scientologists drop Dutch copyright case

The Church of Scientology has finally dropped a court case against the Dutch writer Karen Spaink. Their complaint was that she linked to material copyrighted by the CoS.

This was the Church’s fourth attempt to silence the writer and the ISPs who allowed the pages to be posted. If you don’t yet know quite how zany the CoS is, why not read the page on Spaink’s website which details L Ron Hubbard’s cosmology, OT III (Operating Thetans, Section Three)?

Here is a taster:

The head of the Galactic Federation (76 planets around larger stars visible from here) (founded 5,000,000 years ago, very space opera) solved overpopulation (250 billion or so per planet, 178 billion on average) by mass implanting. He caused people to be brought to Teegeeack (Earth) and put an H-Bomb on the principal volcanos (Incident II) and then the Pacific area ones were taken in boxes to Hawaii and the Atlantic area ones to Las Palmas and there “packaged”.

… starring Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirsty Alley.

I get it now. Poor Tom Cruise isn’t satisfied with the devout adoration of baying fans by the thousand, he needs something else to buck his ineffable ego and make him feel truly superior to everyone around him.

I’ve never understood how anyone can be suckered in by Scientology. The basic premise of the entire religion reads like a bad science fiction book. No surprise really considering it was invented by a bad science fiction writer. Who once alledgedly told a friend that he might start a religion to make some money.

I guess some people are just really gullible.

I thought today of suggesting to the NSS (National Secular Society) that we should start a new religion that’s so far-fetched and utterly ridiculous no one could be expected to believe it; and then it struck me that L. Ron Hubbard had already done it.

The serious thing here is: that despite being roundly, frequently and demonstraby proven as a pack of pseudo-science and out-and-out bullshit, the “church” continues to thrive. Anyone else see some parallels with, oh, say Christianity for instance?

Tom Cruise is short; Travolta is a rich has-been who was the only reason Hubbard’s dreadful Battlefield Earth got made into a movie; and Kirsty Alley is fat after failing repeatedly to keep her weight under control and currently appearing as fat bird on TV. Three shining examples of how Scientology can make you healthier (just not taller, better looking or slimmer).

    More shining examples of Scientology:

Isaac Hayes: Was recently heard inviting us to suck on his choclate salty balls.
Lisa Marie Presley: Married Wacko Jacko
    Courtney Love: Just plain bonkers

And the real shining light of the good Scientology can do to a person……

    Charles Manson.

Charles Hendry (Con. Wealdon) thinks that Scientologists are sane, normal law-abiding citizens who’s rights must be protected under the RHIL! Here is a copy of an email I have sent him:

Why are the Scientologists any less dangerous than Satanists? Theirs is a protective, secretive cult which has in recent years tried desperately to cover up its activity and lost. Now they are well-exposed, you should go an read up on how they control their followers. ITV might be convinced, but I doubt it has met anyone who has actually escaped from these people. The truth is out there:

And there’s a whole lot more if you go and look for it!

Now tell me again, how is this not a cult…
