Pagans upset, threaten “rain magic”

This time it is the Cerne Abbas giant which is being treated with disrespect. Promotors of the new Simpsons Movie have painted a donut-weilding Homer next to the giant above the Dorset village.

It is painted using biodegradable paint which will wash away as soon as it rains.

Pagans are up in arms. Ann Bryn-Evans, joint District Manager of the Pagan Federation in Wessex:

It’s very disrespectful and not at all aesthetically pleasing. We were hoping for some dry weather but I think I have changed my mind. We’ll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away.

I’m amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It’s an area of special scientific interest.

While it is amusing that pagans have such things as “joint District Managers”, credit must be given for their restrained reaction. If only other offended religious groups would restrict their protests to the performance of harmless magic rituals instead of demands for censorship and death threats.

UPDATE: The b3ta boards are host to an animated version:

But can’t you see? Given the flooding in England right now, the “rain magic” really is a terrible threat! Or it would be if it worked. Maybe they’re doing a Pat Robertson – doing “rain magic” when it’s already wet and then claiming it worked.

Yep, bang goes our glorious summer. What’s their next trick, ‘make the sun rise magic’?

The daft thing is that the Cerne Abbas giant was probably originally put there for similar reasons to why Homer was put there – for a bit of a laugh.

I love the animated version. Damn I need some viagra to “pull off” that stunt these days.

    Joint District Manager?
The idea of committees, rather than covens, of witches is pure Terry Pratchett material.
Could they turn someone into a frog off their own bat, or would they need a quorate to pass a resolution first?

ironically there is torrential rain forecast in london tomoro.. their magic seems effective enough but it appears their aim is a bit off!

Dont know why they are complaining anyway, haven’t they heard of the Mull of Kintyre rule? I know it doesn’t appy to hillsides, but nonetheless…

  8. Elliott Grasett says:

You know, I’d never heard of the Mull of Kintyre rule.
    Those Film Classification people!
They will have their little joke.
