Prude’s pornographic portrait peeves prissy protegé

A portrait of Mary Whitehouse and Cliff Richard composed of images snipped from top-shelf magazines has upset the director of Mediawatch UK.

The portrait, by acclaimed portrait artist Jonathan Yeo, goes on display this evening at a West End gallery. It has a price tag of £25,000. Yeo says:

If Mary Whitehouse was still around I hope she would treat this picture as an insult. She equated nudity, bad language and violence as if they were all equally dangerous.

John Beyer, the smut-campaigner who took over from “the late great” Whitehouse, whom he idolises, is fuming:

To have her memory besmirched is contemptible and passé. He needs to grow up.

Whitehouse’s son Richard, on the other hand, sees the funny side:

It is quite witty really.

It is indeed.

    “He needs to grow up.”

Yeah, right, is that because nudity is immature?

I think John Beyer needs to grow up.

Ooh! I think I can see a nipple!!

Another own goal from the rent-a-quote god botherers.

“I think John Beyer needs to grow up” Bob you quite literally took the words right out of my mouth, I actually said precisely that out loud as I was reading the article.

Usually I find these contoversial art pieces quite crappy and think that their only merit is their ability to provoke a totally predictable reaction from the usual people, this one however is a real work of art, quite brilliant.

Incidentally the Freethinker magazine gave Whitehouse a quite brilliant eulogy and the cover was one of my all time favorites.

Actually, it`s not all that difficult to make Cliff Richard look like a right tit – he does it himself quite often!!

  6. barriejohn says:

PS Anyone who wants a REAL laugh should go to YouTube and listen to the video of St Richard of the Cliff murdering “Over the Rainbow”! (The annoying background noise is Judy Garland spinning in her grave!!) He does a similar hatchet job on Matt Monro`s classic hit “Softly, As I Leave You” too (also on YouTube), just to show that he has no shame.

I don’t like much ‘modern art’ but this is really quite clever. Would have been better if they had used gay skin mag images for Whitehouse though, as she managed to get the editor of Gay News a suspended prison sentence for printing a poem.

“If Mary Whitehouse was still around I hope she would treat this picture as an insult.”

Yes, I think that’s what’s known as “the point”.

  9. TigerDunc says:

Nudity is dangerous? Only if you die laughing at someone’s shortcomings or are operating the salami slicer at Sainsbury.

    • barriejohn says:

@TigerDunc, Did you ever see that old “saucy” Seaside Postcard where the fat lady`s posterior was in close proximity to the slicer, and the grocer was saying: “We`re getting a little behind with the bacon this week”? Priceless!!
