Channel 4 Wank-a-thon

MWW waits in eager anticipation for John Beyer to toss off a few choice quotes about this one.

Such a pity the event is taking place in Clerkenwell, and not Jodrell Bank.

UPDATE: Well, we didn’t have to wait long. The Sage of Ashford is positively beside himself with rage, and is calling for government intervention. We just hope he hasn’t shot his bolt too soon:

We call on the Secretary of state for Culture, Media and Sport Tessa Jowell to intervene to make Channel 4 scrap this tasteless idea

C4 is a public service broadcaster though it is funded by adverts and I think it could be breaking its licence agreement with the Government.

Advertisers should withdraw their funding and force C4 to drop the programme.

I’m lost for words. It’s a terrible idea, C4 is capable of doing superb programmes but this isn’t one of them.

It’s bringing TV standards down once again.

(makes comment about John Beyer, his Momma’s ass-crack and a stain on the mattress)
    (realises microphone is live)

    Beyer says:

    I’m lost for words.

And yet he still manages to spew 89 of them.

  3. Andy A says:

It’s all a big mistake. It’s a marathon walk. I often hit the ‘l’ instead of the ‘n’. Easily done considering what I’m doing with the other hand at the time …

  4. Andy A says:

… or even the ‘n’ instead of the ‘l’, which is what I meant to say. See what I mean …?

  5. […] Is it just men, do you think? Difficult to imagine many women turning up…The real fuss, however, is that Channel 4 are making a documentary about it: Cameras from independent production company Zig Zag, which made Essex Boys for ITV1, will follow the organisers and participants for a 60-minute film, which has the working title of Wank-a-thon. It is expected to air on Channel 4 towards the end of the year. […]

  6. Andy Gilmour says:

Why oh why oh why couldn’t he have used an expression like “Channel 4 should pull the plug”?? Unintentional double entendres would make him far less boring…

  7. Shaun Hollingworth says:

I’m looking forward to seeing it. I commend channel 4 for making this program available.
Perhaps Mr. Beyer might watch it too ?

Oh, but it’s not really necessary is it, because I think he knows enough about the subject matter already.

  8. When I saw the headline “Channel Four to screen Wankathon” in the papers, I assumed Jimmy Carr had been given another panel show.

  9. earthhawk says:

The important question here is the age of the participants. We must protect the under 18s.

  10. Robert Scholey says:

Who has said that it is mandatory to watch ?????
What happened to the off button on the tv ????
Do we not live in a free country ????
As long as there is sufficient warning that adult
content is contained within the programm and that
it is aired at a suitable time, I do not see why
such a fuss is to be made !!!! There are atleast
3 terresrtial channels to be watched alternativly
to this programme, why watch it if you are offened
    by the subject.
SINCE WHEN HAVE WE BEEN MADE TO WATCH TELEVISION AT ALL ???

  11. matt says:

well if u dont want to watch it then urn ur daym tv off plain and simple and let the pepole who want to watch it watch it end of problem.

  12. IV says:

Should be shown, will still be governed by ofcom policy so you won’t see anything offensive anyway. It’ll just be interviews with a bunch of tossers trying to justify their reasons for doing such a wanky thing. Wankers the lot of ’em.

i am looking forward to seeing it. If you think it is offensive, don’t watch it. The particapants are all aged eighteen and over.
