Dead sexy: von Hagens' copulating corpses

The story is from The Guardian, but the irresistible headline is from The Sun.

Gunther von Hagens’ new exhibition, Cycle of Life, has caused outrage among Church representatives and a cross party group of politicians because it includes a couple of corpses having sex.

Fritz Felgentreu, an MP for the Social Democrats says

Love and death are obvious topics for art, but I find it quite disgusting to use them in this way

But von Hagens is unrepentant:

It should not be sexually exciting for the visitors.

We are showing everything from conception through to death.

Death and sex are both taboo topics and I am bringing them together. Death belongs to life and without sex there is no life.

The couple were both volunteers who consented to their cadavers being exhibited in this way.

However, Hagens has admitted that they had never met in life. This is casual corpse sex, people! No wonder the Churches are upset.

We can only imagine the outrage if it is discovered that the male is wearing a condom.

“This is casual corpse sex, people!” has to be the friggin best line that I have read so far this year! Now can we have some gay casual corpse sex?

It’s a good thing he didn’t depict a living person having sex with a corpse, as anyone in possession (including looking online) of such an image would have to be locked up in prison for three years as a result of the new “extreme” pornography laws.

However, my understanding is that an image depicting *two* corpses having sex together is absolutely fine and legal.

Interestingly I just recently discovered that necrophilia was only made illegal in the UK under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Before 2003 the only thing you could be charged with was criminal damage. (well I thought it was interesting)

It’s a bit odd expecting them to come when they’ve already gone.

To be honest I find this pretty revolting and distasteful but for some reason I don’t feel the need to kick off and start screaming for it to be banned. If other people find it interesting and want to see it I’m fine with that.

I agree with Stonyground again (as usual!). I`m afraid I can`t get at all worked up about this whole story because of my view that von Hagens is just another incurable publicity junkie!!

PS The more they squeal, the more he likes it!!!
