Indian government delays Da Vinci release

(From the BBC) India’s information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi has arranged a special screening of The Da Vinci Code before the government decides whether or not to ban it.

According to reports, they had received “more than 200 complaints”. 200 complaints? In a country the size of India?

Meanwhile Joseph Diaz, the head of the Catholic Secular Forum in Mumbai, has started his “hunger strike until death”.

Good luck, Joseph!

UPDATE: The Indian government has cleared the film for release, but it must carry a disclaimer saying that it is a work of fiction.

The current estimated population of India is 1,095,351,995.

So thats 0.00000018% of the population.

Equivalent to approximately 11 complaints in the UK.

I know it’s been said before, but there’s no harm in gloating, and that’s this: the fruitcakes who complain about The Da Vinci Code say it’s distorting the “truth”, that what it depicts is not true. Er, um, uh …

Now that xtians and jews over here are getting their knickers in a twist over it as well, I think I can sense a really nice backlash looming; ie lots of people will go to see it BECAUSE of the fuss. Shades of “The Life of Brian” all over again. Excellent! (Except, of course, TLoB was a brilliant film, whereas one suspects this thing is just a heap of s**t!)

Some Catholic journalist/idiot on the Jeremy Vine show is currently comparing the Da Vinci Code to the Protocols Of The Elders Of Zion. Way over the top!
