Danish paper in trouble over Mohammed cartoons
From the BBC: cartoonists for a Danish newspaper have received death threats for drawing cartoons of Mohammed. The newspaper Jyllands-Posten urged cartoonists to send in drawings of the prophet after an author had complained that nobody dared illustrate his book on Mohammed.
Twelve cartoonists responded, and their work was published in the daily paper. First, an Imam demanded an apology. The newspaper was forced to hire security guards to protect staff. A group calling themselves “The Glory Brigades of Northern Europe” starting putting threatening collages on the internet. Then, as the BBC reports, ambassadors from 10 Muslim countries complained to the Danish prime minister.
Apparently Islam forbids the pictorial representation of the prophet. That means that Muslims shouldn’t draw him… doesn’t it?

So if you’re not allowed to draw, paint, or otherwise represent Mohammed… how do the complainants know that the cartoonists have drawn Mohammed, as opposed to just a random Arab man of the period?

Islam is (or was supposed to be) a religion in which there is no any impediment
between the person and god. So the trouble with today’s islam is exactly the same trouble
christianity went thorough 200-300 hundred years ago. Even worse, islam has to live through this
crisis in a rather rapid fashion.
Well, as a muslim, for me it is really sad to see a big bunch of braiwashed muslims to claim advocacy for the prophet or god. If the Danish newspaper’s cartoonists committed a sin, it is noone’s busineess to make on behalf of god or Mohammed. Well, who gave that power of attorney for the god to those muslims who threaten people who are only expressing their views. All these brainwashed muslims should do is to express their disappointment appropriately and leave teh rest to god, if they really belive in god, of course. If you think you will be rewarded for threatening or decapitating people who only express their views, then you are very, but very much ill-informed about your own religion.
Sorry one more comment to those expansionist (fellow??) muslims and christians: No any single religion will prevail by itself. There are numerous ways of connecting with god, and islam, christianity, judaism are justsome of those. of those. As far as what they refer to as Sharia law in countries like Saudi Arabia is concerned, s a muslim, I comletely agree with Vaughn’s comments that their (justice ???) system is completely inhuman, opaque and barbaric with no respect for human dignity, women, non-muslims.

Why the Danish government and its media attacks the final Prophet and Messenger of Allah, the Almighty; Mohammed
They ignored all international bonds, traditions and treaties. They careless for all the objections, which were presented to them.

The claim of “freedom-of-speech” does not entitle anyone to attack others and harms them
The claim of Jyllands-Posten newspaper that they allow, promote and practice freedom-of-speech, by publishing cartoons ridiculing Mohammed the Prophet of Islam, is a non-convincing claim. All worlds’ constitutions and international organizations insist on and demand to respect all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, the Almighty. Moreover, they confirm the necessity to respect the Divine Messages, respect others and do not attack the privacy, dignity and honor and principles of others.
In the International World Federation Council of media and press people, it is stated:
Media people must be alert of risks that may arise as a result of prejudice and discrimination implied by the media. The Council would exert every possible effort to avoid being involved in such calls, which are based on prejudice and religion, sex or other social differences discrimination
• A media man may commit a dangerous professional deviation such as: claiming other’s work, ill-interpretation of facts, false accusations of others, condemning others for no basis, accusing others with their integrity and honor for no sound basis or accepting bribes to either publish or prevent the publishing of specific materials.
Therefore, we also base our opinion and/or statements herein on an honest and sound media proclamation requesting the Danish newspaper to apologize for what they did. I guess people don’t understand the Islamic religon. Freedom, yes does say that you have the right of speech, and the right of press. Only if it will not cause harm to others. For example in the middle of a crowd you can not yell fire because people will panic. Will that is the same here except people are getting angry and mad. And not just mulims, but people of other religons too. If those cartoons were a politcal statement than that isn’t true because you have offended a religon in general. I am only 14 and grownups of great maturity and have high respect are losing it, for there comments and statements.

Muslims Up Ante Against Denmark, Norway over Cartoons

RIYADH, January 27, 2006 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) – Muslim countries have stepped up political and economic pressures on Denmark and Norway after two of their publications offended millions of Muslims worldwide by publishing a series of cartons ridiculing Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Saudi Arabia had recalled its ambassador to Denmark in protest to the Danish government’s awkward response and indifference to the blasphemous cartoons in the country’s mass-circulation daily Jyllands-Posten, Reuters reported Thursday, January 27.
“The Saudi government recalled its ambassador for consultations in light of the Danish government’s lack of attention to insulting Prophet Muhammad by its newspapers,” a government official said.
“This led to an escalation of the situation and its development.”
Twelve drawings depicting Prophet Muhammad in different settings appeared in the paper on September 30.
In one of the drawings, an image assumed to be that of the prophet appeared with a turban shaped like a bomb strapped to his head.
The controversial cartoons have been reprinted in a Norwegian magazine on January 10 to the outrage of the Muslim world.
“Underestimating”
And in the first admission of its kind from a Danish politician, the Danish ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Hans Klingenberg, said on Thursday that his government underestimated the crisis.
“There is a risk that we in Denmark have underestimated the indignation and anger that these cartoons have caused in the Muslim world,” he told Jyllands-Posten.
Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen refused in October to meet with 11 ambassadors of Muslim nations to discuss the issue and reluctantly said in a New Year statement that free speech should not taken as a pretext to insult religions.
Arab foreign ministers in December condemned the Danish government for its inaction.
Danish Muslims have said the Danish premier’s stance on the cartoons was not “positive” and announced plans to take their legal battle against the Jyllands-Posten to the country’s federal attorney general and the EU human rights commission after loosing a local case.
They further said that prime minister only moved after mounting pressures from the Muslim world and to protect Danish investments in Arab and Muslim countries.
Al-Azhar, the highest seat of religious learning in the Sunni world, has raised the issue with the UN and international human rights organizations.
Boycott

Denmark’s blasphemous cartoons have triggered a boycott of Danish products in Saudi Arabia.
Alra Foods, Europe’s second-largest daily company and the leading Danish exporter to the oil-rich kingdom, said phone text messages calling for a boycott of Danish products have been circulated in Saudi Arabia.
“More and more supermarkets are taking our products off their shelves and don’t want fresh supplies because consumers no longer want to buy our brand,” Arla Foods spokesman Louis Honore told AFP.
“The situation is very serious.”
Arla Foods sells an estimated two billion kroner (268 million euros, 328 million dollars) worth of products every year to Saudi Arabia.
Klingenberg said he feared further repercussions.
“We have to take this (boycott) threat seriously, and remain attentive so that this boycott does not spread to other Muslim countries,” he added.
The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) threatened on Saturday, January 21, to call for a boycott of Danish and Norwegian products over the provocative publication.
Conciliatory Steps
Norway, on its part, has taken conciliatory steps over the issue to avoid more grave consequences.
The Norwegian foreign ministry on Thursday asked its diplomats in Muslim countries to express their “regrets” to their host governments about the re-printing of the cartoons.
“The publication of the cartoons has provoked strong reactions in countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran,” ministry spokeswoman Anne Lene Dale Sandsten told AFP.
“We understand that feelings may have been hurt.”
The ministry sent a text to its embassies to help diplomats formulate the Norwegian position.
“The cartoons published in Christian magazine Magazinet are not helpful for the necessary bridge-building between people with different religious and ethnic backgrounds. Instead, they contribute to suspicion and a superfluous conflict,” said the text, published in the Norwegian press.
Norwegian Muslim leaders blasted the magazine for reprinting the explosive cartoons as a bid by its “extremist” editors to ignite a sectarian sedition in peaceful Norway.

I am a Muslim and proud of that because my Islam tought me how to well behave and talk to people with
respect. You are weak and have nothing against us but that we are better than. I am a woman and I
have all the rights which protect me against anybody thinking of insulting me. My body is not sold
on magazines covers for thousands people around the world. I practice my freedom in the best way(I went
to college, I work in mix invironment and I travel around the world alone). Stop your war against us
and just worry about your own business. Find jobs for your young people, feed the thousnads who can’t
even have piece of bread to eat, bulid houses for the thousands of homeless peopel, protect the girls
from men abusing them and trade them like anything in the streets, take care of the thousands drugs
addicts who are diying in the streets. We are not Angles but we don’t have problems as much as you
have. You are lost but we know our road.
You are ignorant people. you have no values, morals, respect..etc you should be a shamed of yourself and need to be treated in mental hospitals.
You need to educate yourself first and get out of all your ugly problems and material things
to talk about other people and religion.
Go back to your history and study it, it should be make you proud pigs or animals.
The cartoons been drawn by one person as the analysis of the pen shows,
the campaign is a racism act by some Danish sick people.

The amount of hate some westerners have illustrated here for the Muslims is quit amazing. I have always respected the western countries as a muslim because they have picked up their pace and became superior to us muslims in many things in life. But this hate, and the inability to hold it, and to open a decent discussion without cursing or swearing is something the west cannot do. I have noticed that westerners are people with low morals, and people with a huge amount of madness to anything non-western or european. Racisim in europe is far much greater in any other continent in the world, and now you have included religion too?
As a Danish citizen, I am apalled and outraged by the mis-information by muslims in Denmark in relation to the cartoons of Muhammed. We invite you here to our country, make you fellow citizens, if you´re unemployed we pay you money so you´ll be fine, we help you pay your rent if you cant yourself. You got children, then we pay you child money. Denmark spend 50 billion danish Krones every year on muslim immigrants! Is this the tahnk you`
If you date our women and if you marry, the dansih woman must choose to be muslim. If a Danish guy dates a muslim woman, they end up dead. You call us alcoholics, whores and dis-believers because your God says so. I must say: I hope you choke on it all. Being a human in the 21st century, htere are things you have misunderstood! The world is changing, and we must change with it. All of us!
Denmark is a small country, and we end up having the entire muslim world against us because of this. Muslims are emotional bombs. People who will explode anytime, if their person is offened or their family honour is broken. Muslims are on the path of destruction. Their own and ours. Why is it that muslims want to come to the western world? To be free, have a better life, hopes for a better future, like everyone else! Then why do you want to change us! The free world will prevail. One is either with us, or with the terrorists!
And to put things straight: THERE IS NO GOD. GOD IS A CONCEPT, AN IDEA CREATED BY SOMEBODY LONG TIME AGO. But, there are a lot of forces out there, that one may hook on to and manipulate to ones own advantage. It is time.! We change, or we die! ANd muslims will die. Hail Israel and the free world. Down all governments that opresses women, brainwashing its citizens, and having with the intent to take over world. Muslims are making their own coffin. We will rejoice, when you bring us no more headache. Caus headache you giving us. Let´s not hope that Yogoslavia will be the blueprint for the future of Europe! Because muslims need not push us much longer.

As a danish citizen, I am somewhat relieved that this step has been taken. Freedom of Expression should either be absolute or not excist at all. It was in my opinion not an attack on a religion, but an attack on the limits of Freedom of Expression within Denmark.
Denmark government , Muslims from all over the world will go against you for not preventing such things from happen .. u stood with the newspaper that offended the best man of mankind has ever known,, proejcts , history, books ,,all prove that he is the best mankind has ever knew and you offended him with some discrace picture,,well rest assure that this beahviour will no longer be tolerated..muslims will not be quite as they used to , because this when u discrace our prophet , u have croseed the red line . ALL Muslims Make sure you dont buy any denmark product anymore.. if ur a real muslim and u love ur prophet make sure u dont buy their products.
Fighting them or harming them isnt good ..the best way to brake denmark is by not buying their products,, this will break theri economy down .

my openion as a muslem person, Danemark as one of the most reputable &civilized country world
wide lost the respect by that drawing puplished in jyllands posten at least among all the
muslem nations. sure the good image & the reputation of Danish people has affected, so no body win,
if there is a losser, sure the losser is the danish people who lost the good image among the
arab counties.one more thing, if u velieve with the democracy& the freedom of expresion ,
this does’t mean to insult 1.5 billion muslem world wide by this drawing. it’s totally far a way from
any democracy or freedom to express.
the newspaper insult many muslem people & the danish government by their negative action also
insult all the muslem countries without any cause. i don’t think any muslem person or muslem newspaper
attack or even wrote single bad word about danish people or dansish government before, so
why u attack all the muslem by this drawing and u say it freedom to express. i can write and
draw many many comment & caricateries about u under the same sentence (freedom to express)
