Danish paper in trouble over Mohammed cartoons
From the BBC: cartoonists for a Danish newspaper have received death threats for drawing cartoons of Mohammed. The newspaper Jyllands-Posten urged cartoonists to send in drawings of the prophet after an author had complained that nobody dared illustrate his book on Mohammed.
Twelve cartoonists responded, and their work was published in the daily paper. First, an Imam demanded an apology. The newspaper was forced to hire security guards to protect staff. A group calling themselves “The Glory Brigades of Northern Europe” starting putting threatening collages on the internet. Then, as the BBC reports, ambassadors from 10 Muslim countries complained to the Danish prime minister.
Apparently Islam forbids the pictorial representation of the prophet. That means that Muslims shouldn’t draw him… doesn’t it?

In 1992 Jens Joergen Thorsen’s film about Jesus was shown in Denmark for the first time. It showed Jesus as homosexual and sexual activitiivities in details. Actually a group of Danish citizens demonstrated against the film – that in contradiction to the pictures of muhhamed – was sponsored by the Da sponsored by the Danish Film Institute (the Danish Government). In Denmark there is freedom of speeach, freedom of press, – and it can be difficult to understand what this means if you live in a contry without democracy and without freedom of press. It means that you can have an opinion – you can express it – but not be a racist of course. The drawings are not racism and they do not reflect racism. The value of democracy and spech is much more important for us Danes than i.e. a rediculous small export to the Middle East.
Everybody has the right not to buy Jyllands Posten (I am very surprised that people in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other places realy care about what is written in a danish newspaper) – as everybody had the right not to go and see jens jorgen Thorsens movie about Jesus.
So if you are not happy with the Muhammed Drawings (in Denmark we have a sense of humour and make satiric drawings about the queen, jesus, the prime minister and now also Muhammed)- dont buy the newspaper?

This article is missing half the facts and is typically biased. The dutch done this in the name of ‘freedom of speech’. But when dutch muslims approached them to apologise for offending them, they were told to get lost. But now that muslim countries like the oil rich saudi arabia (more then closing embasies)are withdrawing thier money and not trading with the dutch, they have had a change of heart. (Al-Baqarah [2]:89; Al-An‘am [6]:92) Concerning both the Torah and Injil, we read: “Wherein is guidance and a light.†(Al-Ma’idah [5]:44, 46, MMP) Furthermore, Al-Ma’idah [5]:46 says about the Torah: “Therein is the (plain) command of God.†Many of the great interpreters (such as Al-Jalalayn, Al-Fakhr Al-Razi, Al-Tabari, and Al-Baydawi) acknowledge that according to the Qur’an, the Torah is called “the Book of God†(Al ‘Imran [3]:23) and “the Book which helps to make things clear.†(Al-Saffat [37]:117)
So, now that we know, that the bible is a book of God, and has to be respected by both Muslims and Christians, we can take the basic rule into consideration: In the book of Matthews Chapter 7 vers 12, Jesus says:
“All things, therefore, that YOU want men to do to YOU, YOU also must likewise do to them; this, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean.
We know the vers also as: What you don’t want, that others do to you, then don’t do that to others. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 12:17: . “Return evil for evil to no one. . . . Do not let yourself be conquered by the evil, but keep conquering the evil with the good.â€
In short, RESPECT EACHOTHER.

Dear All whoever you are. Let me introduce myself – I am a Dane and, just for good measure, my religious faith is druidic pagan. I belong to neither of the three great religions (christianity, islam or the jewish faith). Nor do I have any affiliations to any of them.
Now that all this is set straight, this is my two cents :
I understand fully the hurt emotions of the islamic world, even if I feel that every person of every belief in the world should advocate peace, and thus I DO NOT DEFEND TERRORIST ACTIONS.
That is the very problem in Denmark right now – everything is black/white – if you talk of peace both sides of the conflict accuse you of taking sides with the enemy.

It is not that I do not think that humor has any place in religious matters. In fact, one of the most hilarious experiences I have ever had is Life Of Brian. It is just that… well, there is quite a difference between disrespecting ones own heritage (as europeans), and disrespecting others, especially in a time when the relationship between two ways of life are already so tense. It doesn’t solve anything, it is just lack of diplomatic ability, not to say plain STUPID. A lot of people will argue that it is important to stand on freedom of speech and democracy but dammit…there is a time for everything and now is not it! Sure, you have the right to call your neighbor a wanker, and NOBODY CAN TAKE THAT RIGHT AWAY FROM YOU – so why this great need to do it? Does it solve anything? Does it invite to dialogue?
It is getting harder and harder to even try to broke peace without getting accused of being a ‘traitor’. To openly express anything resembling the opinion that the Danish newspaper and the government has done anything wrong is unthinkable, and one is accused by ones countrymen of wanting to destroy democracy and freedom of speech! The room for dialogue or voices trying to advocate peace is rapidly diminishing – if it hasn’t gone already! I do not know what you call that, but I for one, call it a fundamentalism as black as the one the islamic world is usually accused of by the very same people!
And now I see that the dialogue in the muslim world is just the same, just the other way around. As a Dane, I am personally horrified and so ashamed about these drawings of something so important to other people, and I can feel how I myself feel the need to retreat further and further from my Danish heritage… I don’t know if it is wrong to do so, but it is just impossible for me to be a part of this.
But even so, as human beings who are all, I am sure, trying to do what is right, isn’t it within everyones field to try and stem the flow of aggression and the death of dialogue, as well as speak against injustice everywhere?
I plead with you all, christian, muslim and jew alike stop this madness! I beg of those on both sides who feel offended by the others actions to at least sit down and control their anger, no matter how just this anger may feel to you. You may argue that the other side will only understand brute force, fire and war – but never mind them! What do YOU choose in this situation? What becomes of YOUR humanity if you choose to fight fire with fire?
I am thoroughly convinced that there are many on both sides of this fence that does not want another fight. Speak up, all of you, for right now I feel so alone.
For all those who pretend to hail freedom of speech as holy, to all those who pretend to hold human rights as inviolable, to all those who pretend to deem human lives as sacred, look at yourselves in the mirror, and examine yourselves and your actions, can you explain, in all honesty, to your children your views and your actions? You hold freedom of speech as holy but all you use it for is slander, and lies. You have no courage to speak against the atrocities committed against the innocent and downtrodden; you have no courage to speak against the developed west selling arms and ammunition to warlords in Africa. Against the drug companies selling banned drugs to the poor Africans, or carrying out drug tests and murdering their innocent African test subjects. You hold human rights as sacred but you will not allow Muslim women from wearing the head scarf. It is not against human rights if they are banned from getting an education, or entering public institutions, if they chose to follow their religion, indeed that does not infringe on their human rights. Neither does it infringe on their human rights to be harassed and questioned like criminals and suspects, every time they chose to travel, and it does not infringe on their human rights if they are thrown in jail without any cause, rhyme or reason, or a crime, without access to a trial, or justice for years on end, it is all justified because they to follow a certain belief. You hold human life as sacred, but if it belongs to a Muslim then it has no sanctity, it has no value, it worthless in your eyes. A hundred thousand innocent men, women, and children raped, murdered, and slaughtered in the name of granting them freedom is justified! More than thirty thousand slaughtered under false pretenses is justified! All because they chose to follow a set of values and a belief system. You are all hypocrites and spineless cowards, and all you can do is spread lies and slander those who are held in esteem. And you derive sadistic pleasure from causing pain to a people who chose to follow Islam. How would you react if it were your father, mother, or a loved that were slandered and made fun of? Would you then have similar sentiments, would you react to this in the same manner?
I have reviewed what some of the news agencies dealt with concerning the Danish news agency Jyllands-Posten had published, which I believe it to be a heinous mistake and dreadful deviation from the path of justice, reverence and equality. The said agency published 12 cartoon caricatures on the 30th of September, 2005, ridiculing Mohammed , the messenger of Islam. One of these cartoons pictures Allah’s Messenger PBUH, wearing a turban that resembles a bomb wrapped around his head. What a pathetic projection!
I was extremely saddened to read such news.
I personally visited the site of the agency on the net.
I examined the size of the blundering scandal it was. On Sept 29th, 2005 issue of , Jyllands-Posten, I saw and read dreadful news and cartoons.
The news and the cartoons were horrifying and extremely disturbing to me.
I believe al Muslims who read, viewed or learned about this news were equally saddened, disappointed and disturbed. All criticized such work and felt awful and dismayed about it. Similarly, I do believe that all sane and wise people, I believe, would feel the same about it.
The contemporary world is witnessing today great much confusion all over. Innocent blood is being shed. Innocent lives are being harvested by oppression and transgression. We are in utmost need to spread peace, justice and love all over the world. We need to call for the respect and reverence of all Divine and heavenly Messages and Scriptures. By doing so, we would be able to preserve the divine messages and demonstrate love, appreciation and reverence to the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, the Almighty to this world.
We would further help to preserve the souls, honor and belongings of all mankind all-over-the-world. We would further demonstrate the respect and honor of the human rights all over the world.
The claim of Jyllands-Posten newspaper that they allow, promote and practice freedom-of-speech, by publishing cartoons ridiculing Mohammed the Prophet of Islam, is a non-convincing claim. All worlds’ constitutions and international organizations insist on and demand to respect all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, the Almighty. Moreover, they confirm the necessity to respect the Divine Messages, respect others and do not attack the privacy, dignity and honor and principles of others.
In the International World Federation Council of media and press people, it is stated:
) Media people must be alert of risks that may arise as a result of prejudice and discrimination implied by the media. The Council would exert every possible effort to avoid being involved in such calls, which are based on prejudice and religion, sex or other social differences discrimination.
A media man may commit a dangerous professional deviation such as: claiming other’s work, ill-interpretation of facts, false accusations of others, condemning others for no basis, accusing others with their integrity and honor for no sound basis or accepting bribes to either publish or prevent the publishing of specific materials.
A noteworthy media-person should believe that it is their duty to give an honest attention to the aforementioned items, and through the general framework of the law in each country.)
Therefore, we also base our opinion and/or statements herein on an honest and sound media proclamation requesting the Danish newspaper to apologize for what they did. The proclamations states: “The media person would exert every possible effort to correct, modify any published information that he/she noticed that they are inaccurate and/or harmful to others.”
Undoubtedly, what the Danish newspaper; Jyllands-Posten published is harmful not only for more than two hundred thousand Danish citizen, but also to more than one-billion-three-hundred-million Muslims along with others who are fair and just people. All these hurt people honor, respect and love Mohammed the Prophet. This action will continue to hurt and harm all Muslims so long we live on the face-of-this-earth. Denmark, if does not deal with this problem on a fair ground, will also continue to be a source of harm and convulsion to many Muslims. This is because of the mentality of some Danish individuals who are anti-prophets, messengers and divine messages.
We would like to remind also with the decree which the Human Rights Agency in the United Nations adopted on the 12th of April, 2005. This decree insisted on the ban of distortions and vicious attacks against religions and especially Islam; which had been strongly attacked in the last few years.
Finally, I would like to inform you that all Muslims will certainly stop their commercial business dealing with Denmark until they openly and officially apologize for the shameful attack to the person of Allah’s Messenger SAAW by Jyllands-Posten newspaper.
It is time for Muslims to go back to where they are from. We do not want you in the West. If you don’t like our ways,
then just pick up your rags and return to your homelands. Don’t push your luck or you will go the way of the JEW!
If you don’t believe it could happen perhaps you need to take a little trip to Serbia. They took care of their Muslim problem!

Being a muslim female, I just want to say to everyone that islam is my protection. It makes me feel more like a human being, especially when i read stories about our prophet mohammed (pbuh). He used to be called the “the most trusted man” Because he never cheated anyone, and never lied. For muslims being illiterate, just to let you know that i am speaking your language right now (English) beside speaking my mother language which is arabic, and i challange any western person to learn the arabic language as perfect as i am speaking the english language. Muslims made algebra which is being used by all westerns until this day (and to let you know the numbers that the westenrs are using [0123456789] are the arabic numerals,not to mention the other mathematical skills that are being used to run this machine that i am useing right now (the computer) + the science of the contact lenses etc.. yall know what im talking about (being litterate and all) and if you dont know what i am talking about then please just go read a book. so who is the illeterate????) without our knowledge where would the western people be???????? “R.E.S.P.E.C.T yall know what it means to me” wasnt that a western song??

I would like somebody to tell me what “Freedom of Expression” means, explaining specifically the
limitations of that right. In other words, does “Freedom of Expression” mean that i can say anything

All christians if a muslim person drew a cartoon showing the pope for instance being sexually abused for example, wouldn’t you be really angry and it would have been a global issue. However, the pope is still not the prophet or not jesus and even nothin compared to them. Thus, drawing such insulting images were only a tool to seek fame nothin more. However, in the muslim world we respect jesus as much as we respect prophet mohamed that we can never even think of drawing his face. So please do not defend a fame seeker person and try to look at islam from a non extreemest presepective.
